Cub Scouts are for children aged 8 to 10½. Most Cubs join us from the Beaver Scouts, but we do take new boys in when we have spaces.
The Cub pack provides FUN and ADVENTURE for the boys. You will get a chance to try lots of different activities like swimming, exploring, playing games, lighting fires and cooking on them, camping and many more. There is the opportunity to gain badges to wear on your uniform when you do these activities. We meet once a week on a Tuesday, and have games, and an activity which often works towards a badge. Sometimes we go out to the woods or park, either for a walk or to play some games.
The Cub pack is made up of 4 sixes, which are named after colours (Green, Yellow, Brown and White) and you wear a woggle with your six’s colour on your scarf. Each six has a Sixer, who looks after the six, and a Seconder, who helps the Sixer, or acts as the Sixer when he is not there. When you are ready to go up to Scouts, you become a Super Sixer, and help the Leaders to run games, and help any new Cubs with some of the activities.
The Cub pack goes camping for a weekend each year, where you get the chance to sleep in tents, build shelters or bivouacs in the woods, light a fire and cook your supper of sausages and potatoes, have a great sing at a Camp Fire, and lots of other fun things. If it is hot, we have a water fight to cool down. The Cubs can also camp with their families at our Family Camp which we run each September.
The Cubs join with other Cub packs in our District, for activity afternoons and badge afternoons.
When you become a Cub you have an investiture, where you make a promise. You are then given a Group scarf to wear, and some badges to show that you belong to 5th Petts Wood Scout Group.
