The 5th Petts Wood (Methodist) Scout Group began in June 1961, and the Rover Scouts (the older boys) followed on in November 1964. The Rover Scouts were later renamed Venture Scouts, and more recently Explorer Scouts. Through the 1970s the Group was very successful running 2 Cub packs and 2 Scout troops. The Beaver colony (for the younger boys) started in November 1989.

In September 1981, the Venture Scout unit started taking girls into the Group for the first time, with the Scout Troop following suit in 1993.

In 2007 Scouting celebrated 100 years, and the Group joined in a Distrct camp at Downe Scout Activity Centre. On 1st August every Scout throughout the world renewed their promise at 8am local time.

The Scout Group are sponsored by Petts Wood Methodist Church, by providing us a place to meet, and allowing us to store our equipment and minibuses on their premises. In return we attend Church Parade (a service for all ages) on the third Sunday of each month (except February, April, July, August, November). In April we attend the District St. George’s Day parade, and in November we join with Petts Wood British Legion and other organisations for a Remembrance Day Parade.
